As a lifelong Mainer, historic restoration is a way for me to help preserve Maine’s culture and building environment. I’d like to dispel the idea that historic restoration is expensive and exclusive. Not all my work is restoration. Sometimes it’s just making newer repairs to an older structure; sometimes general carpentry on more recent buildings. I am able to do a wide range of things: trim, wooden window and door construction, siding, basic furniture and cabinetry projects, built-ins, kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, plaster work, timber frame repair and construction, and free general consultation of appropriate historic renovations/restorations. I started out working in education and switched to carpentry in the late 1990s and have been restoring and building on my own since 2009. I have given presentations on historic preservation and local architecture to many historical societies in the beautiful Waterville/Augusta area. Currently I am teaching “Central Maine’s Architectural History” at both Augusta Adult Education and Waterville Adult Education. Certificate in preservation skills and technology from the Preservation Institute in Windsor Vermont. Lead-safe RRP certified.
